Data and medical ethics
Dorek (دورك) is a digital waiting list for walk-in medical practices in Algeria: a patient in the room scans a QR code, gets an anonymous number and follows their turn on their phone. The code changes every 2 minutes, so only patients who are there can take a number. No names, phone numbers or health data. From 4 900 DZD a month, with a 7-day free trial (14 days on a colleague’s invitation).
What a ticket holds
- A number, for example A-008.
- A place in the queue.
- An estimated wait.
That’s all. The patient gives no name, no phone number and no reason for the visit. There is no account to create.
Dorek keeps the ticket number for 30 days, then deletes it. Nothing in it tells who the patient is.
Why we chose this
Data that is never collected can’t leak, can’t be sold and can’t be misused. To know who comes after whom, a number is enough.
The waiting room learns nothing more than it did with the paper list. It actually learns less: the list had names on it.
What Dorek keeps, and about whom
-
Patients:
the ticket number, kept for 30 days and then deleted. Nothing that tells who they are.
-
Doctors:
the account’s email address and name, to sign in and manage the subscription.
-
Ambassador applicants:
name, wilaya and WhatsApp number, so we can get back to them.
The details, how long we keep data and your rights are in the privacy policy.
The code of medical ethics
The code of medical ethics forbids doctors any advertising, direct or indirect. Dorek was designed with that in mind:
-
No advertising for the doctor.
Dorek informs patients who are already in the practice. It is not a way to attract patients.
-
No public list of practices.
Dorek does not publish the names of the doctors or practices that use it.
-
No reviews, no ratings.
Dorek never asks patients to rate their doctor.
-
No ads on the screen.
The waiting-room screen shows the queue. No one buys space on it. The only announcements are the practice’s own.
Only patients who are there
The QR code changes every 2 minutes. No one takes a number from home, and the order of arrival stays the order in the waiting room.
Urgent cases stay with the practice
Whoever runs the queue on the doctor’s control screen, the doctor or the secretary using it, can tap “Mark urgent”. The ticket moves to the front of the line. That is all: no reason is asked and nothing about the patient’s health is recorded. Patients cannot do it from their phone.
